Sivert Gingerbread Construction Company

I'm finally getting around to posting pictures of our gingerbread house construction project from a couple of weeks ago. Building a gingerbread house with a Sivert man as the foreman was an interesting experience. At one point I thought Bill might pull out his Construction Master and start calculating angles and roof pitch and such. I'd like to say that Bill and I just sat back while the kids had their way with graham crackers, frosting, and candy, but in reality they had a more "observational" role in the construction process. They pretty much just sat and watched and ate candy, which suited them fine. We all had a fun time and were quite proud of our finished product.

The first floor is complete.

Ready to set the roof.

Setting the roof proved to be more complicated than expected. There ended up being a whole process of reinforcement and double trusses involved.

Finally ready for some embellishment.

The kids finally got to get in on the action and decorate.

Taking a minute to consume the building materials.

All done!

I have to admit I'm not very good at this blog commenting thing, but it is still fun to look at yours every once in a while and see how you guys are doing. I hope you have a Merry Christmas and when you come up this way we should do lunch sometime.

Every year I promise myself and my kids that a gingerbread house will be on the "things to make our holiday bright" list but it never seems to happen. I really think they would have a ball, it is just that I can never seem to find six hours of down time - 1-2 hours for building, 4-5 hours for clean up. What a good mom you are.
